A classic sword of the high medieval period (11th – 12th century) this sword has a clear lineage to the swords of the Viking Age with its long and broad cutting blade; its tip retains some of the spatulate form of those earlier styles, but as this is the Type Xa blade it is more acute in the tip than the Type X. This is a sword that like its Viking predecessors, has a balance that favors powerful cleaving blows and hacks – it is the sword that would have been a ubiquitous sight among the Knights of the early Crusades and among the incessant warfare seen throughout early Medieval Europe.

The blade of this hand-forged example is crafted from tempered EN45 high carbon steel, with its guard and pommel made from resilient mild steel. The wooden grip is tightly bound in leather which was finished with a well-executed cord impression and a trio of risers for an improved and more sure grip. The tang of the blade is peened over the pommel for a strong construction and assembly. The sword is paired with a premium-crafted wood core scabbard which is overlaid in well-fitted genuine high quality leather and an integrated sword belt of matching thick leather. Its protective chape piece is of bronze.
