The hilt of this Viking Sword is immaculate in its detailing and well-cast in antiqued bronze. Unlike most Viking Sword reproduction on the market this one has a two-part pommel; the tang is anchored into the base of the pommel and the pommel cap which covers this construction is dual-riveted with the pommel base. This is a much more accurate reproduction of Viking sword pommels over the standard single-piece pommels on most reproductions.

The blade is forged from high carbon steel and the durable wooden grip is tightly overlaid in leather. Included with the sword is a wood-core leather scabbard which is bound in leather and adorned with detailed bronze fittings to complement the sword hilt. The bronze suspension loop allows it to be slung from a sword belt or baldric.

This was the first sword I ever bought, and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. The blade, hilt, and scabbard are all positively gorgeous. The scabbard has foam that makes it a snug fit but also makes it a bit harder to draw. The point of balance is on the higher end since this style of sword is for hacking. At 3.6 pounds it’s heavy, I actually started to tire myself out after swinging it around for a day. The blade wasn’t perfectly in-line with the direction of the hilt, but not massively so. It took a bit of digging around how best to exactly hold it since the hilt is so short and you either have to choke up on the hilt and only hold it at a right angle, or choke down on the hilt and rest your lower palm around the pommel. Doing neither results in the pommel digging into your hand; but that’s not Deepka’s fault, the hilts on these kinds of sword were just short and the pommels blocky.

Considering what I paid for it I’m very happy with it.
