Windlass - 1840 Ames NCO Sword
Borne into war for over seven decades, the United States 1840 non commissioned sword saw services in the Mexican-American War, the US Civil War and the Spanish American War. This reproduction of this famed US military sword is faithfully reproduced from an original manufacturered by the Ames Manufacturing Company and it even reproduces the manufacturer markings of the original. The single-edged blade is forged from tempered 1075 high carbon steel which is mounted into a hilt of finely cast polished brass. The left ricasso reads AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS. The right ricasso reads US / DFM / 1863.
Included is a scabbard that matches the originals made from thick and stiff leather with a brass chape and locket.
