This Naval Spadroon is a replica of the one worn by the wax mannequin of Lord Nelson on display at Westminster Abbey that was placed there in 1806. Spadroons of this style were common and popular among naval officers of Nelsons day. The naval spadroon was fast and light, tapered just enough to make for quick thrusts on ship confines, yet wide enough to be an effective slasher. It had just enough heft to ward off the heavier cutlasses used by the lower ranking crews of fighting ships. The 5-ball knuckle guard doubled as an excellent knuckle duster.

This replica of Nelsons Spadroon has an unsharpened, tempered blade of high carbon steel. The guard and pommel are of brass and the grip is of faux ivory with a centered brass plate. It comes with a leather scabbard with brass accents and hanging rings.

A very “salty” sword. I purchased this sword to compliment a uniform for a naval officer of the Napoleonic era and could not be more pleased. It is extremely well made, could not be more attractive and screams “nautical.” It feels good in the hand and will certainly be the crowning touch for my uniform.

I received this spadroon today. I wasn’t sure what to expect, having never purchased a blade from Universal Swords via Kult of Athena. I am very pleased to state that the spadroon is beautiful. The weight is slightly forward but not unreasonable. The fit is crisp, with no rattling or loose fittings. The brass is cleanly stamped, and the blade was highly polished. I will add that the sharpening service sharpened the blade such that I cut my finger while removing it from the shipping wrapping. It is definitely sharp.

    This spadroon is excellent!
