British Royal Navy Dress Saber with Pipe-Back Blade – Universal Swords

The British Royal Navy Officer sword had its pattern set down in 1827 and continues today. The hilt has changed little over the years, minus a hinged flap for easier wear. The blade has had one major change from the Pipe-Back blade to the modern Wilkinson style. Offered here is the Pipe-Back version that was standard until 1845. The Pipe-Back flares at its end with a wider false edge. The Piping is a ridge extending from the blades spine into its flare, designed to give the sword more rigidity for thrusts and strength for cuts.

This reproduction of the Royal Navy Officer Sword with the Pipe-Back blade design has an unsharpened, tempered blade of high carbon steel. The blade is heavily etched with the symbols of the Navy and bears the markings of Prosser, a sword manufacturer in Charing Cross London. The brass hilt has the iconic fouled anchor design coupled with the lion pommel – Admiral Nelson himself had such a lion pommel on his own sword. The grip is faux textured rayskin and is inlaid with brass wire. The scabbard is of black leather overlaid with brass accents, throat and chape and two suspension rings.
