In stock

This Musketeer sword is reproduced from an original dating to the reign of King Louis XV; organized into two companies, the Musketeers of the 1st Company had the hilts of their swords gilt in gold, whilst the 2nd Company had silvered hilts. This replica has an blade of 1055 high carbon steel which is etched on both sides with their 1st Company designation surmounted by the Musketeers Cross. The hilt is sturdy cast brass and the wood grip is tightly overlaid with braided brass wire. The sword is paired with a durable leather scabbard complete with brass fittings.

The Musketeers of the Guard belonged to the military branch of the Royal Household and were the royal guard of the King when he was outside his palace. The two companies of the Musketeers were dubbed the Gray and the Black due to the color of their horses. The Musketeers earned a certain reputation for bravo and panache due to their ranks often being filled with lesser or even impoverished nobles and second sons – all eager to make a distinction for themselves in order to advance in the ranks and society.
