Aventail for Helm - Wedge Riveted - Solid Flat Rings Mild Steel - Lord of Battles
This chainmail aventail is intended to be fitted within a helm to provide protection for the sides and back of the head and neck. The links are sewn onto a leather strip with leather strands.
The links for this aventail are made from flat 17 gauge / 9mm rings that have been wedge riveted together - these rings alternate with solid flat rings. The rings have been darkened for a finish.
The chainmail aventail measures about 10'' from the bottom sewn end of the leather band to chain hem.

Often paired together
Glued perfectly to the inside of the helmet, and the divot between the leather comfortably fits the chin. Adds quite a bit of weight to the helmet, but is barely felt while worn. It’s perhaps a bit longer than necessary down the shoulders (almost seems like it covers the heart), but otherwise a fantastic piece if you’re willing to do a bit of arts and crafts with E6000.
