Iron Tiger Forge - Zodiac Ox Jian
Strength, power, perseverance and leadership are the hallmark traits of the Chinese Zodiac Ox and enviable qualities for a stoic warrior or implacable general. This Jian is thoroughly adorned with the symbolism and imagery of this revered creature and its blade is hand-forged from tempered and folded 1065 and 1045 high carbon steel which was skillfully melded into a single blade to combine the desirable properties of harder and softer steel into and throughout the blade. This folding created thousands of internal steel layers which are visible throughout the blade in bold and vibrant ripple-like patterning.
The hilt is both intricate and beautiful with its antiqued brass pierced open-work scroll and vine styling popular during the Ming Dynasty, making this a fitting sword for the general, scholar or respected noble of the Court. Its detailing is picked out in hand-applied gold and silver contrasting color. The grip is smoothly polished and dignified ebony hardwood. The scabbard likewise matches the sword having been well-carved from fine ebony and embellished with antiqued brass fittings to match, as well as a belt hanging cord.
The sword comes with a brocade-bound gift and display box complete with a traditional sword maintenance kit kept within a small wooden box which fits neatly within the display box.
