Overview

Age of Craft - Two Handed Falchion

This exceptionally large falchion is purpose-built for pounding the most stubbornly armored opponents of Buhurt. The extra-length grip gives plenty of leverage for its bearer to bring its thick, blunted blade crashing down on the foe and to recover capably for another strike. The blade is thick-edged with a thickness of about 3 mm, including its rounded tip and the sword is tempered to a fine compromise for resilience and edge durability. The guard and pommel are welded to the thick tang for a tough and lasting construction and the grip is wrapped in spiralled leather banding.

Please Note: This is a utilitarian sport fighting sword and it is common for them to have some cosmetic blemishes present. These are not polished perfectly from the manufacturer as they are expected to be a hard-used sport fighting and training tool

Love the sword, however the cross guard section that points down towards the handle is either a mistake by the maker or poor design.

It jams into the wrist on certain maneuvers preventing the use of the full handle. Aside from this, the sword is amazing and I love it. I’ll have to cut the section of the cross guard off and flip it and reweld it tho.

Love that the weight of a sword you’re supposed to hit sparring partners with is just listed as G65 Spring Steel. I’m sure it’s fine.

Q&A

Questions from the community

Ask a question
Q What is this sword built for? Common Question
A — KOA

This two-handed falchion is purpose-built for Buhurt sport combat, where it's meant to deliver heavy, repeated blows against armored opponents. Its thick, blunted blade and sturdy welded construction are built to take and dish out hard contact rather than for display or test cutting.

Q What steel is the blade made from, and how tough is it? Common Question
A — KOA

The blade is made from G65 spring steel, a high carbon steel valued for toughness and resistance to chipping or bending under repeated impact. It's tempered for a balance of flex and edge durability, which suits the pounding it's meant to take in Buhurt bouts.

Q Is this a full tang sword? Common Question
A — KOA

The guard and pommel are welded onto a thick tang running through the hilt, giving a solid, lasting joint built to handle the repeated shock of sport combat. This is a sturdier approach than a narrow rat-tail tang and matches what a hard-use fighting sword needs.

Q What does the point of balance mean for handling? Common Question
A — KOA

The point of balance sits 2 5/8" out from the guard, keeping the mass close to the hilt despite the blade's length. Combined with the long grip, this keeps the sword maneuverable enough to recover quickly between heavy strikes in Buhurt fighting.

Q Why is the grip so long? Common Question
A — KOA

The grip measures 15 1/2" long and is built for two-handed use. That extra length gives the wielder leverage to bring the thick blade down with force and to recover fast for another strike, which matters over the course of a sustained Buhurt bout.

Q Is the edge sharp? Common Question
A — KOA

No, the edge ships blunt and rebated, with no live cutting edge. That's intentional for a sword built around armored sport combat rather than cutting or display.

Q How should I care for this sword? Common Question
A — KOA

Wipe the blade down after use and keep a light coat of oil on the steel to prevent rust, especially since it's meant for hard, sweaty training sessions. Store it dry in a low-humidity spot, and keep the leather-wrapped grip away from excess moisture to preserve the wrap.

Q What does the blade's changing width and thickness tell me about its shape? Common Question
A — KOA

The blade widens from 41.7 mm near the guard to 76.3 mm further down while thickness stays close to 3.8-3.9 mm, giving it a broad falchion profile that carries weight forward. That forward mass helps put power behind the kind of heavy, pounding strikes this sword is built for in Buhurt.
