Chainmail Standard - Bishop's Mantle - Butted High Tensile Wire Rings - Lord of Battles - DISCONTINUED
This standard of maile is constructed from butted links of high tensile wire which have been sewn onto a backing of leather. A pair of brass buckles and matching straps are added for adjusting and fitting the standard to the neck. The individual rings are 16 gauge thick and 9 mm in diameter.
A standard is an easy addition to a mail hauberk or haubergeon and provides the essential protection for the throat and neck. Most maile torso armor neglects this zone because integrating it into a hauberk or haubergeon would make the coat of mail very difficult to pull over the head. Thus this bishops mantle / standard can easily be buckled around the neck after donning your mail coat. It certainly gives your mail ensemble an up-armored appearance. The mail links are very difficult to cut through and the leather backing protects the neck from chafing against the links.

IMMENSELY satisfied! This was my first purchase from Kult of Athena, and every aspect of it surpassed my expectations! I’m writing this from Nova Scotia, and was impressed that my order got to me in only 4 business days (and that’s with a 1 day delay due to weather). I also had to cancel an order for a helmet during the long weekend, and KoA was VERY swift in getting back to me and refunding my purchase.
As to the mantle, the construction seems very solid. The finish is a touch darker than it appears in the picture, but it’s nothing that a decent cleaning wouldn’t fix. The fit is a touch loose on me, but I have a scrawny neck. It would definitely fit comfortably on anyone with average proportions and is easily adjustable to those with larger builds.
All in all, the mantle and KoA’s service have completely blown away my expectations. I’ll definitely be doing more business with them in the future!
