This chainmail standard is made from dome riveted aluminum round rings alternating with solid flat rings of aluminum. The use of aluminum makes this armor piece weigh considerably less than steel. It is a good match for those who wish to pair it with an aluminum hauberk, haubergeon, shirt or coif who want to ensure their rings match in construction and appearance among their armor pieces. The inclusion of the standard gives the wearer an up-armored appearance and a nod to practicality, for it makes good sense to ensure the neck is well protected before battle.
The dome riveted rings give the armor a more authentic appearance and their pairing with solid rings ensures there are no butted rings present. By alternating riveted rings with solid the manufacturer was able to lessen the tedious riveting labor used in its construction to bring down its cost to you.
The rings are sewn to a backing of leather and the standard is closed around the neck with a pair of brass buckles and leather straps.
