The Eglinton “Pinch of Snuff” Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword is based on a historical original of the Eglinton Castle collection which is now housed at the Royal Ontario Museum. The “Pinch of Snuff” namesake comes from a c. 1750 painting by William Delacour that prominently shows a Basket Hilt sword with an officer of the 78th or Fraser’s Regiment relaxing with a pinch of tobacco. The Eglinton is a particularly gorgeous and masterfully crafted example of this iconic Highlander sword and stands out even among other swords of its type. This replica hasa blade forged from C60 high carbon steel (similar to 1060 high carbon steel – a solid and resilient steel) which is mounted into an intricate steel basket hilt.

The grip is wood with a wrap of leather and inlaid braided steel wire. The sword comes with a sheath of thick leather with a steel chape and locket to complete this famed sword of the Scottish Highlands.
