Though this saber looks like a 19th century Napoleonic French Cavalrymans sword, it is in fact a more modern incarnation. The French F1 saber was created in the 20th century for military parades and ceremonies, and is heavily based on the AN IX sword of Napoleons day. Its similarity has fooled many, but the main difference in design is that the blade is less curved than the original and slightly shorter. While the original would have been reserved for cavalry, the F1 can be seen throughout the modern army and its military schools. The AN IX was the first sword to incorporate the three-bar hilt design that would become very popular throughout western militaries of the day. A classic and elegant sword, it is easy to see why the French would reboot the AN IX (and the very similar AN XI) to showcase their martial professionalism.

This recreation of the French F1 Saber has an unsharpened, tempered blade of high carbon steel. Inscribed onto its spine is the script Sabre DOfficier M. F1 The hilt is of brass. Unlike the original AN IX, the F1 had a grip crafted from a glossy, black, plastic-like polymer. This is replicated here on this recreation. The scabbard is of steel with brass accents and hanging rings.

Durable and Beautiful, hard to put away. Its very durable, I fenced with it against a substantially heavier blade and it held up very nicely, test cutting went well, even with a dull blade it sliced straight through a fresh pumpkin. I do have a couple of issues though. The blade was pretty nicked up, which is fine for a sword of this price range, which can be grinded and polished out. My biggest problem with it though is that The sword quite easily gets stuck in the scabbard. Its a very nice tight fit, however there seems to be a plastic rail inside of it that fell out of mine. The sword easily gets stuck between that rail and it takes at least two people to pull it back out. Other than that I have no complaints. It fits wonderfully in the hand and its so fast and light as well. Very snappy, I would definitely tell anyone on a budget to get this sword.
