This Hungarian Heavy Cavalry Saber bears markings commemorating the merger of Transylvania into larger Hungary following Hungarys 1848 revolution against Hapsburg Austria. The blade bears other nationalistic symbols and slogans. The sword has the long straight blade with a spear-like tip and a thick spine – ideal for a charging thrust that could skewer the foe in a manner not unlike a lance. A different method of cavalry fighting that favors a charge of impaling steel over dextrous horsemanship and wide slashes from the saddle that lighter cavalry favored.

The blade of this reproduced Hungarian Cavalry Saber is of high carbon steel that is unsharpened and tempered. The hilt is brass with a ribbed brown leather grip inlaid with brass wire. The scabbard is steel with two suspension rings.

If your a thruster this sword’s for you, definitely a heavy heavy calvalry sword. I think this is it, my favorite sword. Thick, yes, very, but it still flexes well and returns straight as before, the fuller is done nice straight and even, the Koa sharpening service did a nice job, thank you koa, and there’s no waveyness looking down the blade, I didn’t think I could get a sword with a blade this nice, the handle is black not brown as in Koa’s pictures, another seller has this sword with the black handle and they state th steel is 1065 not en9 as koa states so that would be a plus for me, brass guard is done nicely, and unbelievably the cuts in the brass for the tang fit almost perfectly and the blade is seated very well on the guard, the handle is comfortable but oh oh, the bottom side of the leather guard got some glue or other substance on it and disfigured the leather, oh well, I can live with that, other than that this sword is great, very nice, the scabbard is excellent, if the sword makes your arm tired you can use the scabbard in its place, just sharpen the protective end.

This one has great potential for modding. The thickness near the hilt is 9, which brings the balance back towards the guard, and that was how a lot of saber swords were designed, heavy cavalry or not. The fore is thick and will take a bit of work. The overall sword is magnificent.

There is no insert into the scabbard so the blade can be inserted quickly, and there is some retention so th3e blade will stay in the scabbard.

Overall a solid blade for period costumes or playing with. No mods needed if you’re very strong and take your time get to know the sword.
