Landsknecht Emporium - Adorian Messer
The Adorian Messer from Landsknecht Emporium is based on surviving Messers from Central and Eastern Europe and Landsknecht's studious attention to detail has created a reproduction that feels ready and able in the hand, a sword that would be the most vicious of opponents in a close-quarters scrum. The sweeping blade slices and cleanly cuts with swift authority and its angled tip is a surprisingly capable thrusting blade. The acute, needle tip is reinforced and the sharpened false edge aids in minimizing drag when puncturing a target. Before the false edge, the blade has a thick spine which imparts excellent durability and rigidity. The blade is crafted from 6150 high carbon steel which is well tempered and finished with a sharp edge.
The guard and pommel are of tough steel and the grip scales are fashioned from well-carved and highly attractive Mahaleb Cherry hardwood which is cleanly polished. The grip scales are dual-riveted to a very thick blade tang and the tang itself is also peened over the pommel. The protective Nagel goes through the crossguard and is peened on the reverse to ensure it can absorb a hard-hitting blow without failure. In addition to this the crossguard is peened to the blade shoulder to minimize the chance of the guard loosening or shifting in use. Altogether, this sword is robustly constructed and built to last.
Due to safety concerns, Gustav and Adorian are not available with blunt blades, neither as standard nor as custom products. The short, wide, thick blades have virtually no flexibility, which would make even blunts of these messers extremely dangerous in thrusts, and hazardous even in cuts since the flexibility of the blade absorbs a considerable amount of force not just from thrusts, but from cuts as well. Making such short blades flexible enough to be suitable for sparring would on one hand make the sharp and the blunt variants behave very differently, while also making the blunt blade more prone to damage, not even speaking about the visual differences the modification would cause.

The Maker
Landsknecht Emporium
The Landsknecht was the archetypal mercenary of the late 15th and most of the 16th century, with their heyday being in the second quarter of the latter. They were pretty much the meanest & baddest soldiers around that time, with a heightened sense of fashion. Our goal is to create weapons a period Landsknecht would be proud to use, mostly on a budget that keeps it accessible to modern recruits.
Due to the continuous research we are doing, we sometimes stray from that time and location to better understand trends that led to the development of weapons we aim to recreate. We are progressing from simpler items towards the more complex ones. We started with making Messers in 2016 and it was our main focus in these past few years. We intend to cover most of the styles relevant to our interest, while we’re planning to expand our repertoire with Katzbalgers, Bidenhanders, various daggers and all kinds of awesome stabbiness in the foreseeable future.
We founded Landsknecht Emporium to this end in March of 2016 in the outskirts of rural Hungary, at the end of a dead-end dirt road in a house not unlike those of murderous hillbillies in the movies that we call home.
