The Gottfried by Landsknecht Emporium is a quick and agile weapon with capable blade presence in the bind. It is the lightest standard Messer on offer among the Landsknecht selection and one of the most popular choices among Messer fencers. The 25" long type M3C blade with an elegant clip point is hand ground from 6150 / 51 crv4 steel and is well tempered. Its point of balance measures 4" forward of the guard; and ideal position for a blade that is in a compromise for agility and nimble handling coupled with just enough forward balance for strong cuts and deep slices.
The hilt components are also ground freehand from mild steel. Landsknecht Emporium is letting some hand-work variance happen in the hilt accessories to not only keep the price manageable, but to also give the sword a more authentic handcrafted appearance at the same time. The Nagel is a separate piece peened on the other side of the quillon block, as it should be. The quillons are slid downwards from the tip with the blade protruding in the bottom. The handmade grip slabs of Beechwood are affixed by a set of solid brass rivets which create a robust hilt assembly with the grip and the thick blade tang. The blade accompanies a scabbard with a sturdy wood core, wrapped tight fine leather and adorned with intricate knotwork. It hangs from a leather belt, fastened with gleaming bronze buckles and fittings with a brass tongue for the buckles.
Landsknecht Emporium products aim to have the aesthetics of historical pieces, not the finish of mass-produced items. Each product bears the signs of its making; small tool marks and imperfections, which do not affect the build quality or usability but give each of our pieces its unique character.

In a word, Perfection.
As my first and only Messer purchase, I am blow away by the sheer LOVE that went into the creation of these weapons. Every line is clean and precise, all consistent; this lends for an INCREDIBLY comfortable grip in the hand. Making indexing with the wrist, or interacting with the false edge of the blade a breeze.
With their incredible choice in steel and in tempering, this sword will bend a hair past 90 degrees with ease and come back to true with no issues, and it rings like a fucking bell. In cut testing, the sturdiness of the spine and the deep hollow grind of the blade’s body make for an easy to use cutter, it would be very difficult to be bad at cutting with this sword.
Overall, I could not be more pleased with this sword. Those who have seen my reviews on this site know how much I love my swords from KOA but this one truly takes the cake and currently reigns supreme on my sword stand as king of the large knives (help Gottfried’s tyrannical and overthrowing my longswords)
