The Type G sword of the Petersen Typology is one of the more enigmatic group of surviving swords of the Viking Era. The guard and pommel of these types with its spiralled finials are always crafted in iron and all surviving examples are humble in their ornamentation. Likely, these types were a practical sword for well established Viking freemen for war, raid and homestead defense. This example is built for stage and sport combat with its robust blade with thickened edges that give it impact resistance, durability and longevity. Its tip is spatulate rounded for safety.

The guard and pommel are hand-forged from hammered iron and the wooden grip is bound in tightly stitched high quality leather with a spiralled central riser beneath. A solid peen over the pommel serves to anchor the tang into the hilt. Included with the sword is a thick and tough sheath of stitched leather.
