Pompeii Dagger - 79 AD - Deepeeka
The Pompeii Dagger is a short, but robust Roman 1st Century dagger and it has a blade forged from unsharpened high carbon steel. The hilt is carved and polished wood and it is capped with a steel pommel nut.
The fitted sheath is of stitched leather with an integrated belt loop.

I wasn’t sure whether to give this 3 or 4 stars at first, but my one major gripe isn’t really with the dagger or Deepeeka for this item, it’s Kult of Athena, in this case. So, 4 it is. This is actually my first purchase through KoA and the dagger is quite nice for the price! Nothing without minor imperfections, but for the price especially, mine was pretty clean!
The only noteworthy ‘flaw’ i can find is that the tang is slightly leaning one direction, such that if you flipped to the other edge you’d feel the slight shift in weight- likewise if you sheathe it, you’ll notice the grip go slightly one direction left or right. Also, one side is a smidge straighter in the blade, and the other edge a bit more waisted. It’s not too distracting, but noteworthy. Regardless, it feels absolutely fantastic in the hands, and this is easily still one of my favorite designs of swords/daggers I’ve personally owned so far. Simple and beautiful! Also noteworthy, but good – is that the sheathe holds the blade tightly. You could hand this upside down, shake it, and it not fall out. As the outdoorsy-adventurer type, this is a HUGE plus basically always for me. :)
My main issue is that I paid $15 extra for Kult of Athena to sharpen it, and not only is it not particularly sharp, it’s practically blunted. It’s gonna take a lot of extra elbow grease to put a functional edge on this thing, lest it’s a bludgeoning tool. Even the tip isn’t super pokey, I’m gonna have to seriously work to sharpen it up- luckily I’m willing to, because I *love* the dagger itself.
While I’m happy it shipped unexpectedly very fast, it feels more like my money went to accidental express shipping than what I actually paid for with the sharpening service. It’s not merely a bad sharpening job here, it’s pretty obvious given the speed of shipping and the bluntness of it that no sharpening was even *attempted* here. I’ve heard good or at least moderately good things about the sharpening team at KoA, I believe what happened to my dagger was a simple honest mistake. Nonetheless, still a little bummed that extra cash went to *nothing* and that I’ve gotta put in extra work for my blade to see good use.

This dagger is in excellent condition without any blemishes. Well made, solid feel, comfortable handle, and a cool design which I like very much. If you’re in the market for a Roman dagger, you can’t go wrong with this one as it’s a great blade at a good price.
