Swordier - 17th Century Polish Cavalry Saber

Please Note: The yelman of the blade is unsharpened by factory default. Please contact us if you wish to have it sharpened by our in-house sharpening service

This sweeping saber by Swordier is a faithful reproduction of a 17th century Polish cavalry saber, inspired by the elegant and battle-proven szabla carried by the mounted warriors of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Combining historical form with modern production quality, this saber captures the distinctive lines and purposeful handling that made these swords so formidable both in the saddle and on foot. The blade is forged from tempered 65 Mn steel, selected for its durability and resilience. Measuring almost 32 inches in length, it provides the reach and cutting authority expected of a true cavalry saber. Proper heat treatment gives the blade a resilient tempering suited for repeated use, while its curvature promotes clean, flowing cuts.

Weighing just 1 lb 12 oz, the saber feels responsive and nimble in the hand. Its point of balance, set just over 8 inches from the guard, gives it a forward-weighted presence that allows the blade to power itself decisively through sweeping slashes. That forward bias is carefully balanced by the sword’s overall light weight, ensuring it feels capable and authoritative without becoming heavy or sluggish. The 4.25 inch grip provides a secure hold and confident edge alignment, allowing the user to direct cuts with precision and control and that control is optimized with the placement of the thumb ring for excellent handling and control.

The hilt reflects classic Polish styling, offering hand protection appropriate to a cavalry weapon while maintaining an elegant profile. The saber is paired with a rigid scabbard fitted with metal throat and chape completing the sword and scabbard as a cohesive and visually striking ensemble.

In the 17th century, the sabers of the Polish Winged Hussars became legendary across Europe. These elite heavy cavalrymen were renowned for their devastating charges and battlefield discipline, and their curved szabla was an indispensable addition to the assemblage of arms they brought to the field of their victory. Designed for powerful cuts delivered from horseback, the saber was optimized for speed, reach, and authority. The Swordier Polish Saber reflects that martial heritage with a reproduction that echoes the spirit and functionality of the swords carried by one of history’s most famed horsemen.

Our swords are not just any swords. They are hand-made and fully forged using traditional techniques that have been passed down through the centuries. Every sword, blade, or katana that we sell at Swordier is made in Longquan, a city in Zhejiang province, China, that has a rich history of sword-making spanning over 2,600 years.

Longquan is renowned for its traditional sword-making techniques and is home to some of the world’s most skilled sword-makers.
