The Swordier M1881 Shashka Saber is a reproduction of the distinctive Cossack cavalry sword adopted by the Russian Empire in the late 19th century, combining a lightweight, strongly curved blade of the Shashka saber with a military saber hilt. Designed primarily as a swift-striking cavalry sword, the shashka was optimized for powerful slashes delivered from horseback in rapid hit and run raids. With its exceptionally light weight and lively handling this replica of the M1881 makes an excellent choice for collectors of Russian / Cossack arms, military history enthusiasts, reenactors, and backyard cutters who wish to try out the swift cuts and slashes of the famed saber on tatami and bottles for themselves!
The 31.25-inch blade is forged from 65Mn spring steel, a resilient alloy steel valued for its toughness and ability to withstand flex and stress. Its curved profile and substantial cutting edge reflect the shashka's role as a cavalry weapon, allowing powerful sweeping cuts while maintaining a fast and fluid feel in motion. Weighing only 1 lb 8 oz and balancing 7.25 inches forward of the guard, the saber has an exceptionally lively character, with enough forward presence to add authority to the cut without sacrificing maneuverability. The compact 4.25-inch grip reflects the traditional shashka design, providing a secure one-handed hold while keeping the overall weapon exceptionally light.
