Overview
Swordier - Upgraded Type XVIa Floral Themed Longsword
This Type XVIa longsword is hand-forged by Swordier with a focus on melding gothic elegance and functional cutting performance. Its blade is made from 65 Mn tempered spring steel and features a diamond cross-section above the midsection providing excellent rigidity for cutting and thrusting alike whilst its fuller groove removes unneeded weight at the thicker base of the blade. The blade tang is securely peened over the stainless steel pommel for durable mounting. The wood-core grip is tightly wrapped in stitched faux leather to ensure a confident, two-handed hold. Designed to be fully battle-ready longsword, it is an ideal choice for HEMA practitioners, historical reenactors, collectors, and enthusiasts seeking a sword that performs as well as it looks.
The sword’s design is both practical and visually striking. Inspired by Oakeshott Typology XVIa, a form popular in the late 14th and 15th centuries, it balances thrusting capability with cutting potential. The 35-inch spring steel blade tapers from approximately 5.7 mm at the base to 2.1 mm near the tip, delivering a harmonious mix of agility and authority. Weighing just over 3 lbs with a point of balance around 3.5 inches from the guard, the sword feels lively in the hand while retaining the mass needed for strong, decisive strikes. The nearly 9-inch leather-wrapped grip accommodates two-handed handling, offering leverage for powerful cuts and control for precise thrusts.
This upgraded floral-themed longsword includes a quality scabbard with a wood core overlaid in embossed faux leather featuring a subtle floral motif that complements the sword’s design. The scabbard is functional and durable and comes with a sword belt for wear. The scabbard provides practical protection while adding a touch of artistry to this battle-ready European longsword.

Swordier
Swordier is not just a brand – it’s a passion for the art of sword-making. It was founded by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to share the beauty and craftsmanship of Chinese swords, blades, medieval swords, and katanas with the world.
Our swords are not just any swords. They are hand-made and fully forged using traditional techniques that have been passed down through the centuries. Every sword, blade, or katana that we sell at Swordier is made in Longquan, a city in Zhejiang province, China, that has a rich history of sword-making spanning over 2,600 years.
