Ronin Katana - European Sword #8 - Viking Sword
This Viking Sword from Ronin Katana has a blade of tempered 1075 high carbon steel with a sharpened edge. The long fuller on the blade reduces weight whilst sacrificing little durability and the blade is securely mounted into the hilt with a peen over the pommel. The crossguard and pommel are steel and the wooden grip is wrapped in stitched black leather.
Included with the sword is a scabbard of wood which is bound in black leather and completed with stainless steel fittings and a pair of integrated hanging buckles which can be used to strap the scabbard onto the included and adjustable sword belt of faux leather.

Nice blade but guard and pommel are not steel but aluminum It is a very nice blade but i don’t know why the chinese like to make the fittings out of aluminum. It is a bit tricky too because the magnate will stay on guard lightly but the further away you move it from the blade the less magnetism it has. I would suggest for the money buy something more historically accurate.
Stout, if plain, well manufactured. This is the sword you’ve been looking for. Well built, quality material, scabbard has wack belt loops but otherwise pretty nice. For the price you can’t beat it, and it’s way above the likes of cold steel for example, (comparing to quality of a gross messer for steel and taper, which the messer has none, granted different swords altogether but just to get an idea)
Great Buy, beware of uncomfortable pommel While somewhat accurate the pommel digs into your hand quite roughly, that being said it’s a nice sturdy sword with not bad balance, there are minor things here and there but over an amazing buy for its cost. It does not come that sharp at all I advise being ready to sharpen yourself
Very pleased with this sword, an all around, well built sword. If you’re on the fence about one check out Matt Jensen’s torture test video with this sword, you’ll thank me later.
The first sword I ever bought, and I still like it a lot. It’s a solid chopper with a very nice blade. That said, there are a few negatives:
1. The pommel is somewhat sharp, so it really jabs into the hand when swinging the sword. Best to use gloves.
2. The cord wrap came loose on mine, and slid down the handle. I had to re-wrap the handle myself.
3. The scabbard had some strange white glue/resin inside it when it first arrived, and that would smear on the blade whenever I used it. Eventually this dried up and stopped smearing, but it took a while.
4. The fake leather straps that attach the buckles to the scabbard are not very strong. They ripped overtime from the weight of the sword alone.
This is the first sword I ever bought and It was a good purchase. It got to me way sooner then I expected and I enjoy using it. Unfortunately the Pommel came at a very slight angle, but is not visible unless you are really looking for it. The sword is weighted well and very comfortable to swing, if you are holding it correctly. Overall an amazing budget starter sword. Would (and have) recommend.
I don’t think ronin gets enough credit on there swords they do very well however this is my favorite type of sword and would like to find a maker that does a very nice one perhaps a little cheaper then Albion but I haven’t seen any on here so I may look into Albion if I must but historically this sword is what I want I have danish Viking blood and would love to own a sword they used would really be cool
Really good value sword. The blade is generally pretty good and sharp and it generally feels well constructed. It is also weighted well. But what other people have said is also true about the Pommel digging into your skin which limits the grips you can use as well as the weird white stuff inside the scabbard. However the scabbard itself is pretty good and I have no complaints. In addition the sword belt provided is horrible and I don’t trust it to hold the scabbards weight. However all the complaints are minor and overall it is very good for the price.
