This Spangenhelm has the addition of a facemask giving it much more facial protection than the standard Spangenhelm nasal bar. It is based off of a 13th century original. The Spangenhelm was an easy style of helm to manufacture – its construction is a framework of reinforced strips riveted with plates to fill the open regions. This one is modified by extending this style of construction to cover the face, giving it the facial protection typically afforded by a great helm and easier to create to boot. This is a type of helm that may have been worn by some of the Frankish and Sicilio-Norman knights whilst on Crusade.

This helm is made from 14 gauge steel with riveted construction. The interior of the helm has been blackened and is lined with an integrated leather suspension that with a leather tie so that it can be adjusted to fit. A buckled, integrated leather chin strap keeps the helm securely on the head.

Very Good Helmet This helmet is of very solid construction and is a very comfortable helmet to wear. For the money, it’s hard to get a better helmet representative of the type and period from which this style has its origins. Visibility and breathing in this helmet is wonderful. The face is well enough protected while the lower part of the head and neck are not. I’ve worn this in many sparring sessions with a arming cap, coif, and a cloth or steel gorget and felt very comfortable. Not to mention, this is a great looking helmet in person. I have to recommend this helmet with 4 stars for it’s price and style of helmet.

Decent Helmet Only issue I have is that whoever made mine, put the liner in backwards, so instead of t he strap coming up under my chin, it instead pushes into my throat. Not sure if that would be an issue for all of t hem or I just got unlucky. Other than that, pretty good.

Quality and affordable I got what I paid for. The helmet liner is a luxury and can be “removed’ by easily taking out the string and wearing an arming cap or something over your head instead if preferred. It arrived clean and oiled. It fits on the head extremely comfortably and has good visibility. It’s very attractive
