The flared schilt is a middle ground between the wider and angular classic schilt and more tapered forms. Weighing only 3 lbs. and equipped with a generous grip measuring nearly 10″ in length, it feels quick and responsive in the hands, offering excellent leverage for winding, thrusting, and rapid transitions between guards. Its balance and agility allow it to move with confidence while still carrying enough presence to deliver authoritative strikes.
One of the most practical features of this feder is its fully dismountable construction. A threaded pommel secured by a hex nut allows the sword to be easily disassembled, making maintenance, transportation, and replacement of individual hilt components straightforward. When the pommel is removed, the grip, crossguard, and other hilt elements can be separated without difficulty, extending the service life of the weapon and simplifying repairs.
The 38″ blade is Viktor Berbekucz’s medium-flex option and is rated at approximately 12 kg on the flex test scale, providing a balance between safety and control suitable for both sparring and tournament use. Forged from durable CRV4 (51CrV4) spring steel, the blade features thick rounded edges that help resist impact damage while enhancing safety during training. Distal taper reduces unnecessary weight and improves responsiveness, giving the sword a nimble character without sacrificing durability, while the widened spatulated tip adds an extra measure of safety for thrusting exercises. Completing the sword are a sturdy steel guard and pommel paired with a wooden grip wrapped in leather, creating a dependable workhorse feder built for years of use on the training floor.
