Ádám Bodorics – Gothic Messer with Multi-Fullered Blade

Uniquely gorgeous among Messers is this extraordinary one-of-a-kind example handcrafted by artisan bladesmith Ádám Bodorics. It is full of 16th century German Gothic character with its painstakingly multi-fullered blade coupled with a hilt that pays homage to the German woodland. It is sized and styled perfectly to be representative of a hunting Messer that would have been a highly functional prestige piece for a personage of status and a Messer that would have served as a fine everyday sidearm when out in the countryside, town or campaign for the knight or nobleman. A deft short sword, it can cut, slash and puncture with equally fearsome ability. Unlike many production swords, this Messer has such a precisely tuned balance in the hand that it perfectly hits that fine line between having enough heft to have a discernible presence in the hand while feeling light and undemanding on the hand and balanced to just "be" there. Its a sort of balance that belies a high level of individual craftsmanship and attention to a single piece from a master bladesmith. Throughout the sword there is the light evidence of toolmarks of handiwork from traditional, but precise tools that give it a level of authenticity that production swords will rarely have and this makes it a fantastic heirloom sword be the finishing flourish to an ensemble or the highlight of a collection.

Crafted from well-tempered 6150 high carbon steel, the blade has a complex form with multiple complex fullers that greatly reduces weight whilst leaving the blade stiff and rigid. The false edge and sharpened and the entire blade is reinforced with a thick spine before that transition to a false edge. The intricately shaped guard in the form of woodland leaves and the pommel are of Nickel Silver / German Silver and the grip is carved and smoothly polished genuine Ebony wood. The thick blade tang is peened over the pommel and the wooden grip scales are riveted to the tang for a solid and tough construction throughout. The grip has a subtle flair both in thickness and profile that couches it in the hand for a comfortable and secure grip. As befits a premium sword, it comes with a wooden scabbard individually crafted for its blade and it is bound in black leather and embellished with matching Nickel Silver / German Silver accents with a chain and hanging belt loop.
