Overview
Eglinton "Pinch of Snuff" Scottish Highland Officer's Broadsword - Deepeeka
The Eglinton "Pinch of Snuff" Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword is based on a historical original of the Eglinton Castle collection which is now housed at the Royal Ontario Museum. The "Pinch of Snuff" namesake comes from a c. 1750 painting by William Delacour that prominently shows a Basket Hilt sword with an officer of the 78th or Fraser's Regiment relaxing with a pinch of tobacco. The Eglinton is a particularly gorgeous and masterfully crafted example of this iconic Highlander sword and stands out even among other swords of its type. This replica hasa blade forged from C60 high carbon steel (similar to 1060 high carbon steel - a solid and resilient steel) which is mounted into an intricate steel basket hilt.
The grip is wood with a wrap of leather and inlaid braided steel wire. The sword comes with a sheath of thick leather with a steel chape and locket to complete this famed sword of the Scottish Highlands.

I own several Deepeeka swords and they vary GREATLY in the quality of the fit & finish/handling. This one is by far the best.
Built like a tank but feels light in the hand; quick and responsive with good point control but still has the plenty of authority with the cut.
Sword looks amazing, especially the basket guard- there are some slight asymmetries but almost impossible to see due to the attractive pattern. Blade had no warping or other noticeable flaws. After removing the oil and buffing with Ren wax, the sword glows.
Basket guard provides tons of hand protection but does slightly restrict wrist movement (hammer grip only). Wire wrap looks pretty but a little sharp. Wish the grip was a little less round but feels good, especially wearing gloves.
Only real issue is the sword sticks out of the sheath, but only by about 1cm. I love the belt hanger on the throat, wish all scabbards had this.
It’s not perfect but for less than $200, it’s a crazy steal. Beautiful display piece but functional if you want to try some Cateran drills. Get this, you won’t be disappointed
