Overview

Knights Collection - Dual Ring Longsword

This expertly crafted late medieval and early Renaissance dual-ring hilt longsword sword from the Knights Collection Series is a practical cutting sword with a forged and tempered 1060 high carbon steel. The almost 36" long blade has cross section geometry featuring a hollow ground cross section which reduces weight and drag before terminating in a sharp edge. The 1060 steel is heat-treated to a 52-54 HRc hardness to achieve a balance of edge retention and resilience. Designed for cutting practice or as a standout piece in any collection the sword combines authentic medieval aesthetics with modern durability and material technology and is a solid choice for beginners and seasoned collectors alike.

The full-tang construction ensures the sword can withstand the rigors of cutting exercises or drill. The pommel is peened to secure the hilt in a traditional method that enhances durability. The guard and pommel are cast from stainless steel and the handle is wrapped in tactile cord and provides a secure grip while the crossguard is crafted to offer hand protection without sacrificing aesthetics. The sword comes with a wooden scabbard which is overlaid in faux leather. A matching thin faux leather hanging strap is included.

Let me start with the negative. The scabbard is crap. Really just junk. The D rings on the guard were not level with each other, so I had to put it in the vice and do some bending to get it straight. There are rough casting marks on the guard, that had to be smoothed out with a dremmel.

BUT… here’s the positive. The blade has a very good spring temper and bounces back very easily without being too “whippy”. The hollow ground blade is nice and even. It’s moderately sharp, but could stand a little The hilt and guard fit tight to the blade.

Overall, for the price point, it’s a good buy. But there’s definitely some finishing needed that could make it a really nice sword

Q&A

Questions from the community

Ask a question
Q What is this longsword designed to do, and what does the blade geometry do for cutting? Common Question
A — KOA

This is a practical cutting sword, built for cutting practice on targets like tatami mats or water bottles, and it also carries late medieval and early Renaissance styling that makes it a strong display piece on its own. The hollow-ground blade cross-section trims weight and cuts down on drag as the blade passes through a target, so it cuts cleanly rather than binding.

Q Is this a full-tang sword? Common Question
A — KOA

Yes. The tang runs the full length of the sword in the same 1060-1065 high carbon steel as the blade, through the grip and out to the pommel, where it is peened in the traditional method rather than bolted or threaded. That construction is what lets the sword hold up to repeated cutting drills.

Q Does the sword ship sharp, and what does that mean for handling it? Common Question
A — KOA

Yes, this sword has a sharp edge, so it should be handled and stored with the same care as any live blade. It's built for cutting practice on appropriate targets, not for sparring or contact use.

Q What steel is the blade made of and how is it heat-treated? Common Question
A — KOA

The blade is forged from 1060-1065 high carbon steel and heat-treated to 52-54 HRc, a hardness range chosen to balance edge retention with the flexibility to absorb impact during cutting without chipping or snapping.

Q Where does this sword balance, and what does that mean for how it handles? Common Question
A — KOA

The point of balance sits 2 1/4" from the guard, close in to the hilt for a longsword of this blade length. That keeps the blade feeling responsive and quick to bring around for cuts, rather than tip-heavy.

Q What is the guard, pommel, and grip made of? Common Question
A — KOA

The guard and pommel are cast from stainless steel, and the photographs show a polished, satin-finished cross-guard and a faceted or wheel-style pommel depending on the exact fitting shown. The grip is wrapped in cord for a secure, tactile hold, with a leather washer at the guard for a clean transition into the blade.

Q Does it come with a scabbard? Common Question
A — KOA

Yes, it includes a wooden core scabbard overlaid in faux leather, along with a matching faux leather hanging strap with metal buckle and D-ring hardware so it can be worn or displayed on a baldric.

Q How should I store this sword to prevent rust? Common Question
A — KOA

Wipe the high carbon steel blade down after handling and apply a light coat of oil before dry storage, since bare skin contact and humidity will cause a carbon steel edge to rust. Keep the sword out of its scabbard for long-term storage, since the faux leather covering can trap moisture against the blade and accelerate corrosion; the scabbard is meant for carrying and display, not as a storage arrangement.

Q Is this a good choice for someone new to cutting practice? Common Question
A — KOA

It suits both beginners and experienced cutters. The full-tang construction and heat-treated 1060-1065 steel give it the durability to take repeated cutting drills, while the balance and cord-wrapped grip keep it manageable for someone building up their technique.
