The Kohaku Katana from Dragon King melds a powerful symbolic motif with well-crafted fittings in a humble, yet elegant form. The Kohaku Koi is no mere ornament of a fish to a samurai - it is a strong swimmer that will even challenge waterfalls in its journey upriver. There is an ancient tale of Japan which tells of a school of Golden Koi who swam up a mighty river. When they reached the waterfall at its end most of the Koi stopped and the current took them back whence they came. A few Koi jumped, again and again to scale the waterfall and were successful until jealous Oni demons made the waterfall taller solely out of spite. It was so tall that after one hundred years only a single Koi scaled the falls. Exhausted, yet triumphant, that single Golden Koi was transformed into a grand Golden Dragon. This is what the Koi meant to a samurai - it was the battle against great adversity with the knowledge that perseverance marked the arduous path to Victory.
This sword embodies that tale which inspired Samurai with a Koi-themed tsuba, fuchi and kashira hilt fittings of blackened steel. Not to be outdone, the very functional blade of this katana is forged from T10 high carbon steel and was differentially tempered which left a vibrant, wave-like hamon upon its edge
The habaki and seppa fittings are silver and the wooden tsuka grip has panels of inlaid, genuine rayskin. The tsuka ito grip wrap is well-knotted and silver menuki lie beneath the grip folds. The saya scabbard is carved to fit from wood with a glossy lacquered finish and is complete with buffalo horn fittings and a two-tone red and white sageo cord. A cloth sword bag is included.Elegant in its simplicity, yet profound in the depth of its ancient symbolism, this katana is ideal for the warrior who has made the commitment to weather the trials that lie ahead with a sword that mirrors himself at the side.
