The circular Roman Parma shield was typically borne into battle by the Signifiers – The standard bearers of the Legion. Smaller, round shields could also used by skirmishing elements of an army, most notably the Velites of the Republican Era Legions.
This Parma Shield is crafted from thick poplar wood and it is bound in tightly fitted linen which was then hand-painted. The shield has a stout wooden bar-grip and is rimmed in riveted brass edging. A brass shield boss completes the Parma.
Please Note: The shield ships with the shield boss unmounted, so some assembly is required. Mounting hardware is included. Being hand painted, the precise hue of the shield colors can vary.
