The Ronin Katana #1 has a sharp, 1045 high carbon steel blade that has been differentially tempered, leaving a visible, wave-like hamon of harder edge steel. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira grip fittings are of a zinc alloy. The habaki and seppa are of brass. The wooden tsuka grip is wrapped with blackened rayskin and overlaid with knotted black cotton Ito cord. A pair of menuki of zinc alloy have been fitted beneath the Ito grip wrap.

The Saya scabbard of wood is coated with a red lacquer and fitted with a black cotton Sageo cord. Comes with a black cloth sword bag.

This type of sword is considered an entry-level cutter by Ronin Katana. Ronin advises that they are safe to use against single soaked tatami mats, as well as water bottles and similar targets. Ronin discourages their use against hard targets, as well as thick, hard plastic jugs

Buy with confidence! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I knew what I was buying and I’m pleased to have it. Its not that refined, the back edge is pretty roughly shaped and the blade is a little wavy. The saya is very basic and has no reinforcements. The sageo is very shoe string esque but thats easily correctable. The only real complaint is the mekugi pegs, the ray skin portrudes out very roughly around the pegs. Enough to dig into your hand and probably cut you. It was very crudely drilled. I’ll clean up that area when i take it apart but its very noticable. Ive never seen that on any other katana actually, i thought it was metal shavings at first.
Overall i’m thrilled with the purchase. Any functional katana under $200 is impressive to me. And Kult of Athena did great. I was nervous, as this sword went on backorder the second i got my order confirmation. But it did indeed ship and arrived quickly. The dunnage was very adequate, the sword came well greased, in a bag, wrapped extremly well in heavy paper, inside another box with the same paper. No damage at all during transport. This is my second Ronin Katana purchase and I’m a fan. Yes they are basic. But perfect for casual sword lovers that want something more than a wall hangar without impacting your gun budget :)
