This Russian Baklanovskaya Shashka saber is based on a original that was once in the possession of a officer in the Tsarist Imperial Russian Army. The tempered blade is forged from 1055 high carbon steel and the iconic curve of the Shashqa saber emphasizes quick cuts and slashes, particularly from horseback. Typically worn edge-up, these sabers can be unsheathed quickly with the edge already facing the foe to facilitate a fast strike right from the scabbard.
The hilt is crafted from well-cast brass and the grip is wood which is wrapped in leather and bound with twisted brass wire to complete the sword. The matching scabbard has a core of wood which is bound in black leather and complete with finely-cast brass which is full of lavish detailing, including the Imperial regalia of the Tsar. A brass hanging ring for wear completes the scabbard.
