Swordier Upgraded Type XVIIIc with Double Ring Guard
The Swordier Upgraded Type XVIIIc Longsword 2.0 has the distinctive proportions of an Oakeshott Type XVIIIc with a diamond cross-section blade and an unusual double-ring guard. Designed with an emphasis on powerful cutting and authoritative handling this is a longsword that like many other swords of the XVIIIc type will excel at target cutting. The dual-ring hilt gives it a late Medieval / Early Renaissance character to its hilt design and the sword is a great choice for collectors who wish to expand their collection or for display, though it can be a practical workhorse target cutter as well.
The 32.6-inch blade features a diamond-section geometry characteristic of the Type XVIII family, providing a stiff and strongly tapering blade well suited to powerful slicing cuts with its wide and thin blade. The blade's geometry concentrates mass toward the forte while allowing the blade to become progressively narrower and lighter toward the point, helping maintain point control without making the sword excessively cumbersome and keeping essential width right through to the midsection and main cutting portion of the blade. Weighing 3 lbs 15 oz and balancing about 3 inches above the guard, the sword has a substantial but responsive feel in the hand, with enough blade presence to deliver powerful strikes while retaining useful maneuverability. The hilt is stainless steel while the blade is secured with a peen over the pommel through the hilt for a solid overall construction. The approximately 7.4-inch grip provides ample room for a secure two-handed hold and gives the wielder considerable leverage for cuts and thrusts. The grip is wood with a tight wrap of leather and its lower half further embellished with braided stainless steel wire.
The sword has a matching scabbard of wood with a tightly overlaid binding of leather and finished with a stainless steel chape and a thin leather integrated sword belt. With its historically inspired Type XVIIIc proportions and upgraded construction, this longsword is an excellent choice for collectors and practitioners looking for a distinctive European longsword for their collection.
