Overview

Sugar Loaf Helmet

Taking its name from the conical loaves in which sugar was formerly sold, this Great Helm was popular during the Crusades. Poviding full head protection, its conical top deflected blows much more efficiently than its flat-topped predecessors. Crafted in 16 ga. steel, lined and ready for use.

Sugar Loaf Helm I have one of these helmets except it’s an older model… Still very very good. They’re built fairly well. They sustain dents… But overall they hold up. And they look very nice and follow historical depictions with the design. I’d recommend this. It’s a very typical piece.

Awesome helm, not so awesome condition…. Received mine this afternoon, well boxed and padded with paper as usual. The helm had a rather noticeable dent in the upper crown, though no damage to the box. The brass cross was tarnished badly…almost black in spots. I managed to clean it up fairly well with Nevr-Dull, but it still needs work. The fit…this helm is BIG. Plenty of room for a padded cap and a mail coif. I can even wear my glasses under it, which is a big thing for me. My head is 23.5” circ. and I will HAVE TO have padding. Overall, the helm is solid and well built. I don’t fight, it’s just for costume, and for that….perfect. Looks like a million bucks with my Templar tunic! I recommend this helmet to anyone with a big melon like me, who wants an authentic Templar helm. I give the helm 4 stars, but KOA gets 3 stars for sending me a dented, tarnished helm. What happened to pre-shipping inspection?……….McM

Worth every last penny. Mine just arrived today, and I’m super impressed with it. I was worried that it wouldn’t fit, because I have a really big head, but it fit like a glove, especially once I realized that the internal leather suspension could be adjusted. It feels very sturdy, and there wasn’t a single scratch or speck of rust on it. Would absolutely recommend.
