VB Swordshop

weapons collection

I am Viktor Berbekucz, weaponsmith.

Ever since childhoold, I’ve been drawn in by daggers and swords. Already at 14 years old I’ve been collecting tomes detailing the subject, and around this time I started to take part in medieval reenactments. My first swords have been made for personal use, and then I truly understood what sort of stress a weapon has to endure when I wield them.

To increase their quality, I’ve contacted experts. I can thank much to the help of the Hungarian National Museum’s specialist, Temesváry Ferenc, who expanded my tehoretical knowledge. As well as to Jeges András, restorator and my mentor, who introduced me to the basics of swordsmithing.

At 21 years old, I’ve began working on the idea of my very own workshop. It surprised me that there was a demand for my swords and armours. Since then I’ve been holding the improvement of quality as my most important task. Since my three decades taught me that bladesmithing is never a concluded thing; there is always more to learn. The greatest teacher is the work itself, and the strictest quality inspector is the customer. To me, the greatest acknowledgment is that my clients always return – this gives me certainty that I am on the right path. I honestly believe that my creations help discover the past, and give joy to those who take them in hand.

Story of VB Swordshop and the webshop

More than twenty years ago I’ve become more close-knit with reenactment. As reenactor of the Salamon Historic Club and the Order of Saint George (of the Kingdom of Hungary). During this time I’ve met with many mediveal reenactors, collectors, craftsmen, and craftswomen. Which is how I experienced the needs of the customer side. Parallel to mediveal reenactment, I’ve started smithing. First as a sole proprietor, then with two employees.

Without my wife Andrea, none of this would have become possible. She worked administration, orders, and correspondence with customers. So I could fully focus on the smithing. We’ve been touring Europe’s Renaissance and Medieval fairs, where we presented our products.

The number of orders have continuosuly grown, not just from individuals, but also from the Hungarian Defence Forces. The number of people in the worshop also have risen. The Andrea’s suggestion we’ve switched to a company, and that’s how VB Swordshop came to be, and she created the webshop too.

Our company’s motto: “Tradition, Quality, Guarantee” – which expresses our creed.
