This Sica has a dual-tempered 5160 high carbon steel blade. The dual-tempering process has hardened its edges to 60 HRC to maximize edge retention; its core is a softer 48-50 HRC to give the blade a subtle degree of flex for shock absorption. The guard and pommel are carved wood and a steel plate to protect the guard is fitted where its base meets the blade. The wooden grip is overlaid with binding cord and wrapped in brown leather. It comes with a wood-core scabbard with a brown leather skin and a protective steel chape.

The Sica was a sword associated with notably fierce tribes east of Rome; the Illyrians and the Thracian hillmen. Their forward-curving swords allowed them to use their swords in a pick-like manner - a method that brings a great amount of force onto the tip in a downward or sweeping blow. Even if a warrior stopped the blow of a Sica with his shield there was still the chance of the sword biting into the rim of the shield and striking the face with the forward-sloped tip.

This Sica has been fitted to a hilt in a style akin to the Gladius, making this Sica reminiscent of those used for Gladiatorial combats on the sands of Rome's fighting arenas. Though the Sica was used in such combats to reenact Rome's combats with Sica-armed tribes, it surely was also favored for being a weapon of intimidating appearance with a bite to match. The vicious and extensive slashing and piercing wounds the Sica could cause no doubt gave the weapon a degree of showmanship that many other weapons could not match.
